Barbara Brown Taylor

Barbara Brown Taylor is an Episcopal priest who teaches religion at Piedmont College in rural northeast Georgia. She also serves as adjunct professor of Christian spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. Before becoming a full time teacher in 1997, Taylor spent fifteen years in parish ministry, first at All Saints' Church in Atlanta and then at Grace-Calvary Church in Clarkesville, Georgia. In recent years, she has lectured on preaching at Yale, Princeton and Duke Universities, and has preached at churches across the country. In 1995, Baylor University listed her among the twelve most effective preachers in the English language.

Dr. Walter Brueggemann

Dr. Brueggemann is an Old Testament scholar and author. Born in Nebraska, the son of a German Evangelical pastor, Brueggemann received his Bachelor's Degree from Elmhurst College and doctorates from Eden Theological Seminary (in 1961), Union Theological Seminary, New York, and Saint Louis University (in 1974). He was professor of Old Testament at Eden, and then became professor of Old Testament in 1986 at Columbia Theological Seminary.

Brueggemann is an advocate and practitioner of rhetorical criticism. He has authored more than 58 books, hundreds of articles, and several commentaries on books of the Bible.  Brueggemann participated in Bill Moyers' 1990s PBS television series on the Book of Genesis.  He is a United Church of Christ minister

Rev. Elizabeth Rickert Dowdy, who will lead the closing worship service, is a graduate of Candler School of Theology, Emory University.  She pastors Tar Wallet Baptist Church and Oak Grove Baptist Church, both located in Cumberland, Va.
